Pre-K Reading 1/14/2026 – Another Child Gets the Giggles

Cathy and I read Doggy Dog and Buggy Bug by Chris Raschka. Cathy broke out in a full blown giggle fit. Her giggles made me giggle too, and we just giggled for several minutes, reading the books over and over. I had discovered one of Cathy’s preferences… she loves the funny books. There’s always one or two students each year who ‘get’ the funny books, and they’re always smart.

BENEFITS

Much has been written about the benefits of reading with children. The list includes: helping the young mind develop, improving vocabulary, helping children learn to read, and deepening the bond between caregiver and child. In my opinion the biggest reason to promote reading is because it opens up a whole new world of information, history, and perspective that children may not get anywhere else. In today’s world of harmful social media, short attention span entertainment, and violent movies and video games, it’s never been more important to give our little people positive alternatives.
